The inlingua Method
Overview
Giving Real World Experience
The inlingua method is designed to impart the skills required rapidly and effectively.
It is based on direct use so that you learn to think in the target language without translating.
Classes are fun, friendly and lively, and with conversation exclusively in your new language, you are immersed in your new language from the very beginning. You plunge right in, hearing it and speaking it, and very soon you are thinking in it, too!
The vocabulary selection, order of presentation and teaching techniques are geared to your needs and specific objectives.
The underlying principle is the use of building block modules allowing you to move from the unknown to the known. In this way, you use previously learned material to master new concepts, thereby reinforcing the material continuously.
Role play, simulations, and situational practice, i.e. going to the mall, the restaurant, the bank or the grocery store, give you “real world” experience in a supportive environment where skills and language can be analyzed for optimum integration at work and daily life.
Principles of the inlingua method:
The lesson is conducted only in the target language.
You are expected to speak over 50% of the time in class.
Almost all the lesson is conducted orally.
Teaching structures (how words are put together) rather than teaching individual words.
The extent of the learner’s knowledge is assessed by an evaluation before starting classes.
Teaching materials
inlingua publishes its own books and materials, all of which are written and edited in countries where the language is spoken.
Our Pedagogical Center located at the inlingua International Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, supplies all texts and materials for the different programs offered. Materials are updated on a regular basis to endorse current and relevant usage, as well as teaching techniques.
